hmmm... cake ...

Today's my birthday. Yay! Just in case you were wondering. It's also Rebecca's, Eppy's, Kanut's, and Vladimir Vasilyevich Kovolyonok's birthdays as well. Anyway, I have decided that I like birthdays. That means I'm not old. Only old people don't like birthdays. But I od. Everyone's nice to me. :) You also get ambushed by people trying to hug you, get told "Happy Birthday" a lot, and have the song sung beautifully a lot. Today, cozs me and Becca share our birthday, and are besties, we decided that we'd make a cake each for each other, and we spread the word to come to my class at lunch. So today came along. At interval, we gave each other our pressies, which, funnily enough, part of were exactly the same! We gave each other the same pressie! We also both got cameras from our parents. We figured that that had happened quite a lot actually ... We spend too much time together. In a good way. So we arrived in my class at lunch, to find it packed! There were tons of people in there, and we had only made two cakes. Luckily, a few stars had brought some cupcakes, toffee pops, and russian fudge, and somehow, amazingly, we fed everyone! It was truly a case of Jesus feeding the five thousands, except it was cake instead of fish and my school friends instead of five thuosand randoms. It was great. God rocks.

Yeah, that's about it.
Au revoir

Movies

I was thinking about Sunday night, where people gave testamonies about New Wine, and I decided to give one myself, on my blog, so I could think about it and make it make sense. No Guarrantees, though.

I love movies. They're orsum. S when Howard included them in his talks at Firewire, I was like "Great!" I especially love hilarious movies with random characters, like Mr Bean, Napoleon Dynamite, that sort of thing, and great epic movies, like Lord of the Rings. I lovev the big moments when everyone's fighting for their lives, and then suddenly, the hero arrives on a mountain with the sunrise behind then, the wind streaming through their hair, and big dramatic music. You just feel yourself going "Yeah! Whoo-hoo!" You get this great sense of awe, and you know that everything's going to be all right. Often, you also think "Day-anm!", but that depends on the actor in mention. As Howard said, this is slightly like when we meet God, but millions and billions and trillions and zillions and infinity times greater than this. God is just amazing and awe-inspiring. Sometimes we get caught up in our little petty battles, but forget about the big picture and God. But he is always there for us, and when he does things, they are great and awe-inspiring, and his beauty shines through. All this is so many times greater than we can possibly fathom in our best dream it's mindblowing. He's probably hotter than any actors too.

Also, God doesn't want us to live boring lives. He is like the director of a movie, planning great things and direcrting us. We just need to listen and obey. And the movie he planned isn't some boring movie that no-one wants to watch, it is an exciting adventure. It is a movie that everyone will want to watch. It is a glorious story that will honour God. How amazing will that be, if we just let God, the best director ever, do his thing?

The orsumest characters in movies are always the weird ones. The random ones who aren't worried about what other people care about them, and just be themselves. They don't need to be the same as everyone else, they are comfortable with themselves, and this is what makes them so orsum. We shouldn't worry about what other people think about us, but ujst be comfortable in the skins and personalities God gave us. They are the best we could possibly have, far greater than any we could try to be on our own.

There we go, that was my deep post for the year. That was one of the things I got out of New Wine. But you should go next year. It will be better than just reading my boring post.

Luv ya,

Summer Wine 09

Whoo-hoo! I've just had the most amazing weekend at Summer Wine! I've come back with white lines around my wrist where the food band was, and on my feet from my jandals, and a horrible sunburn on my nose and cheeks, but it was worth it. After all, I put sunscreen on twice, and I was in the pool and on the water slide, so there was no way of doing any more. Anyway, where's the fun in life if you're gonna be too scared of doing anything because you might be sunburnt? You gotta L I V E. There are much worse things to be scared of that don't stop you.

I have to say, I was a bit nervous of going this year because none of my usual friends - Cassie, Esther, Susan, Brit, Lauren - were going to be there, so I was going to be a loner in Firewire, and not even people like Huggies were going to be there! My own brother was ditching Firewire! Outrageous. But when I got there, I saw some familiar faces from last year, and the guys let me blend with them, thanks guys! And then Tamsin turned up, and we hung out together, and that was good.

On the first night, Howard spoke about how God is holy, and that means different. We should all try to be like him and be different (Is that a paradox? Everyone trying to the the same, which is different? Same, different, same ... anyway). He also told us a bit about himself, and his background. By the way, Howard is Scottish, and has an orsum accent, and does hilarious impersonations, and likes movies such as Indiana Jones.

Friday, we had Devotions in the morning, and then workshops. I went to one with Chris and he talked about Hearing from God, and he talked about Elijah. Then we all prayed with each other in groups of three, and got words and Pictures from God. That was orsum. Then Howard spoke again, and he talked about movies, great epic ones, like Lord of the Rings, and that sense of awe you get watching them, and how God is so much greater and awe-inspiring than that. Then in the afternoon, Me, Hannah, Rosanna, Milly, Aaron, Liam and Seb went on the water slide, then we went to the pool, where I saw Ben and Jeremy, and I gave Ben his bday pressy. That was about the only time I saw him. Then we got out, and I put more sunscreen on, and we did some other stuff, can't remember what, maybe played badminton? And then we went back to the pool. Then it was back to Firewire with some orsum worship, and Mike Pilivanchi spoke. He was prett orsum too. He talked about being Holy, and he told a story about a boy in his youth group who had had no support at home, and who went to a camp, wher he told a leader that he had said to God that he had one last chance, and he wasn't telling anyone what it was, and if God didn't answer, he was giving up on God. At the end of the camp, Mike went home, and got a call from the boy saying he needed to talk to him. When he got there, the boy saidthat he had given God one last chance, and that he had failed. So he was leaving youth group. Of course Mike was sad about that, and before he left, he said, "I wanna thank you for all you've done this week at camp, and I love you." At this, the boy broke down in tears and told Mike that the thing he had asked God for to prove himself was for Mike to say "I love you."

Saturday, we learnt how to shower properly, and the workshop that morning I went to was by Ross, and that was orsum. Then Mike spoke again about really living our lives, and taking risks, He said the in a survey taken in Rest Homes in England, the thing most regretted was that people had lived lives too tame, that they hadn't taken enough risks. Saturday afternoon we went to the pool again, absolutely drenched in sunscreen, coz I didn't wanna get any more sunburnt. Then we played Badminton and volleyball, with Scottish accents because I was inspired by Howard, and we were Team Scotland. That night in Firewire, Amy spoke about living life to the full, and things like being yourself, and laughing, and how God made us all different but if we live how God made us to be, we have a special glow sort of thing, and she told us about her past and getting through depression. There was a talent show that night, but I missee most of it because SOMEONE told me it was cancelled, but I saw the last few, and they were cool.

Sunday, I went to a workshop by Chris Casey about leadership, and we played with Mr Potatoheads and talked about our dreams and qualities of a good leader, and the may different forms of leadership for God. Then Howard spoke again about healing, and about how John and another disciple healed a crippled beggar by a gate to a temple, and how God gets us, not just Jesus, but us ordinary people to heal. Then he got us Josh, who had had a biking accident when he was about 8, in which he severly stuffed up his back, and then he got up a bunch of us to heal him, and it worked! Josh said it had been hurting beofre, but now it wasn't and the tension was leaving his back and it felt all hot. Then he got up lots of people with Asthma, and we all healed them. It was amazing. That afternoon we played more volleyball, went to the pool, and it was Johannes' birthday! We had an afternoon tea party for him. He was very excited that morning becvause one of "the girls" (me) was there, and he rushed up to me saying "I'm three!" His grandmother came for the day for him, and he told her that my name was first Daddy, and then Butter Chicken and Naan Bread, which is apparently a big complement from him, as it's his favourite. Then we had a church meeting which John and Marion came up for. Then we had Firewire again, where Howard spoke again, about how we are all apecial and have gifts from God and purposes, and (which he got very passionate about) that there were some people there who thought they were fat and ugly, and that we aren't, that God loves us and thinks we are all beautiful, and hods us up and shows uss off, and we are a treasured jewel to him. That night he prayed for me, and we all prayed for each other, and it was great. Then, there was the second annual New Wine Dance! That was tons of fun! the 'Coverband' played, and they were orsun. Jeremy proposed to me twice, on bended knee, but I said that I was already married and that I was the guy. lol. Henry started about a million congo lines. That was fun. We just all went crazy.

Then monday dawned. The last day. I went to a workshop by Wendy, about telling stories from the bible. She even mentioned Eketahuna in it! ha ha. That was really useful. Then Chris Darnell spoke about how he wished Firewire was all year round, but it wasn't so we had to take it back with us. That was great. Then there was the final combined session, where all the zones got together and showed each other what theyed done. I must say, I was disappointed by cutting edge. Me and Tamsin were crazier than them on our own, al they did was come in late and scream at the end, and they showed the banner that I ( and Susan, Esther, Matthew, Miriam and others) made. Outrageous. Howard read a letter as Sean Conroy, he had read a bedtime story to us in Firewire as him before. And Richard read a last joke. He had read jokes at the beginning of each Firewire session. They were orsum. We also did crazy challenges like dipping faces in water and using them to stick rice bubbles on them and transfer them to another bowl, and running wrapped in toilet paper across the carpark to steal a cone. It was orsum. Then it was one last swim, where we managed to push Howard, Thomas, Guy, Ben, Benjamin, and someone else into the pool.

It was an amazing time, and EVERYONE should go next year. I'll be expecting you to!

luv ya

Oh, by the way, I managed to fix that blog about Bret in Lord of the rings, so go read that. I find it funny.

On saturday, it was a very special bday. Me, Snusii and Festa went to Maz and Adam's early and decorated so the place lookeed really cool, like a rainbow. Ha ha, thats like the song, True Colours... Anyway, other people that I didn't know came and there was a party, and Mia was there with some of her friends, and she was really cute, and it was orsum. Happy Birthday Mia!!!

On thursday, I'm going to ... Summer Wine! Whoo-hoo! Except I'm gonna be a loner. :( Sigh. So come and make me happy! And other people! Like you, and God. and JESUS!!! I love saying that. Yeah, it's gonna be orsum, at El Rancho, which is either my second favourite or favourite equal, I can't decide place. Church is the other one. So, I'll see yu there, along with the Welshies, who I'm gonna kidnap to take to it ... shh, don't tell anyone, it's a secret!

Bret McKenzie, Jemaine Clement: Flight of the Conchords.

By Larry Pritchard
larryp@usa.net
The standout performance in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, although snubbed at the Oscars and virtually unnoticed by critics and the entire LOTR cast and crew, is the deeply moving portrayal of 'Figwit'. With a steely glare the character jumps out from the screen in the famous 'council' scene, making his appearance, some say, the most electrifying two seconds of the film. It begs the question: If Tolkien had seen the movie before writing the book, would he not have made Figwit an additional member of the fellowship. Offering not his bow, but his much touted good-looks to the collection of axes, swords and other less attractive weaponry.

So convincing was this enigmatic performance that many have been left wondering if the 'actor' was actually an elf? (Or at least some kind of half-breed.) Through numerous phonecalls with film companies and actors agents, I tracked down he who is known as "The Gorgeous One" or "Lord of the Personal Grooming". He lives in Wellington, New Zealand. His real name, Bret McKenzie, but I shall continue to call him Figwit as it was too hard to separate him from the character.

Larry P: So Figwit, some say you do not speak, some say you are incapable of speech; is this true?

Figwit: Ahh Bret, just Bret will do.

Larry P: O.k Figwit, Bret it is! (At this point I assume he does speak)

Figwit: No, that's not really true. I can speak. But when I read the script I found I did not have any lines. I thought about the lack of lines and made a character decision based on that not to speak in the council scene. I think the saying is true that actions speak louder then words.

Larry P: Did it cross your mind to add some lines, Figwit?

Figwit: I thought about saying "Legolas shouldn't go! I will go to Mordor! I know the shortcut!". But the opportunity never arose to raise the subject with the director, Peter Jackson.

Larry P: So you decided to telegraph your character's emotional journey through facial statement alone?

Figwit: Um... yeah, and [the way] I hold my body.

Larry P: When in particular?

Figwit: Like the bit when I was sitting down.

Larry P: Ahh?

Figwit: On the chair.

Larry P: (nothing)

Figwit: And when I stand up... in the council scene.

Larry P: Is grooming important to you, Figwit?

Figwit: Well, I think it is important to Elves. Especially Figwit. Look at Cate Blanchet and Liv Tyler, they look amazing. So groomed. They are real professionals. I would love to work with them again.

Larry P: Is it true that during the argument...

Figwit: (INTERRUPTS) In the council scene?

Larry P: ...yeah, when you are standing up. Is it true you mime the words "F**k you!" Or another suggestion that has been speculated upon "Pluck you!"?

Figwit: I am not saying either of those things. I am speaking in Elvish but you don't really hear amongst all of the loud dwarves.

Larry P: What did you say?

Figwit: I said the Elvish equivalent of 'Pluck you! Pluck you all!'. I was so angry with the way the dwarves and men were behaving. Gimli was being so obnoxious. It was the one bit of input I did have.

Larry P: Does Figwit return in the next film?

Figwit: I'm not allowed to talk about it.

Larry P: Have you had many offers after your performance in The Fellowship of the Ring?

Figwit: At the moment I'm concentrating more on my band, we actually do a song which we tried to get into the Lord of the Rings; The Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack. It's called Frodo, Don't Wear The Ring, I do a rap in it.

Larry P: In Elvish?

Figwit: In English but in an sort of Elvish/New Zealand accent.

Larry P: What do you think of the Figwit Lives website? Were you expecting such a big response to such a small part?

Figwit: Not expecting it. But I was quietly hoping someone would recognise my work, Peter Jackson didn't really notice me. He was too busy directing. I'm hoping Peter sees the website and it will spur him on to developing LOTR IV; Figwit's Journey. Or at least make a figurine.

Larry P: Good luck.

Figwit: Thank you.
